Today is Monday and marks the beginning of a wonderful week that includes my very favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Thursday will be the day designated to celebrate and to give thanks for our health, our strength, our family and friends, our jobs, our churches, our neighbors, just a day of reflection and thanks. Today is also a day of service for those who are less fortunate and are unable to have a Thanksgiving in their own homes and may be homeless and in shelters or on the streets. Our church has decided to make Thanksgiving a day of service where we just lavish love on others with the resources that we have all been blessed with. This past weekend, several of our members volunteered their entire Saturday to help stock the local food pantry that is not far from our church that serves over 450 families per week. The pantry operator was completely overwhelmed by the turnout from our church and stated that they had more workers than families to receive the food. That was a first and they were so thankful. After Saturday, the food pantry was overflowing with food and completely stocked. There was overflow and it was placed in the back storage room. Our pastor always teaches us about lavishing God’s love on others and that’s exactly what we did. On Thanksgiving, many are volunteering to serve Thanksgiving meals at the local homeless shelter. Last year, many were astonished at the number of people who came for a Thanksgiving meal and that number is expected to be even higher this year. Let’s all remember and reflect on our many blessings and if you are able, each one reach one! Making a difference in just one person’s life or one family’s life can mean more than you will ever know. Have a great day!
